NEMA distributes food items to IDPs in Borno

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) said it distributed over 7,000 metric tonnes of food items to persons displaced by the Boko Haram insurgency in Borno in the past two months.
According to Mr. E. Umesi, the NEMA Coordinator of Emergency Food Intervention for the Northeast, the agency distributed the food items to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Maiduguri and other liberated communities.
The agency has also been conducting the enumeration of the population in liberated areas during which it has so far covered Mafa, Dikwa, Gwoza, Bama, Benishiek and Jekana among other locales.
Recently, the agency was in Biu and Hawul Local Government Areas, where it distributed food items in Biu, Kimba, Kwaja, Kwajafa, and Shafa.
NEMA has so far deployed over 200 trucks and distributed food aid in 10 of the liberated communities. About 15,000 tonnes of food items have been allocated to Borno, while NEMA has registered over 1.8 million displaced persons in the state.
