New Ministers: Tinubu under fire
Nigeria’s civil society organisations have criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent cabinet reshuffle, citing a lack of female representation in key roles. The Coalition of Concerned Civil Society Organisation of Nigeria condemned the appointment of two men to the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, calling it a “total aberration” and a dismissal of gender equity.
Speaking at Arewa House in Kaduna, the coalition’s national coordinator, Comrade Aminu Abbas Arabi, expressed dismay over the appointments of Prof Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda and Hon. (Dr) Yusuf Tanko Sununu, questioning their expertise in humanitarian work. Arabi argued that women are inherently suited to the ministry’s sensitive duties and noted that previous male-led administrations failed to meet expectations.

The coalition called on President Tinubu to reconsider his appointments and urged First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu to advocate for women’s empowerment. They warned that the current setup could worsen Nigeria’s poverty and humanitarian crises, stressing that including women in leadership is essential for effective governance in this sector.
