NGO donates 20,000 tree seedlings to Boko Haram survivors in Adamawa

In a significant effort to combat climate change and enhance the livelihood of residents in Michika Local Government Area of Adamawa State, the Iliya Kwache Foundation, a non-governmental organization (NGO), has distributed 20,000 tree seedlings to survivors of the Boko Haram insurgency.

Iliya Kwache, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation and former candidate for the Michika/Madagali Federal Constituency seat, expressed the organization’s commitment to regularly planting trees to combat desert encroachment and protect the environment from the adverse effects of climate change in the area.

During a mass tree planting campaign, the foundation distributed 20,000 tree seedlings, including Mahogany, black plum, Shea butter, olive tree, and economically beneficial trees, free of charge to the residents.

The campaign aimed to improve the living conditions of the insurgency survivors, urging them to actively participate in planting the seedlings.

Kwache called upon the government to create a conducive atmosphere for citizens who are returning to their homelands after being displaced by the insurgency.

Additionally, he proposed the establishment of a National Tree Planting Day, dedicated to addressing climate change through large-scale tree planting exercises.

“We recommend that the Nigerian Federal Government establish a Ministry for Tree Planting and designate an annual ‘National Tree Planting Day,'” said Kwache.

“Trees serve as both a major defense against climate change and global warming and provide a multitude of benefits.”
