The Tema Regional Command of Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) yesterday arrested a Nigerian lady for purportedly bringing Nigerian girls to Ghana for prostitution.

A press release issued by Tema-GIS spokesperson Mercy Budu said 20-year-old Favour Chidi who admitted to being a sex worker, was attempting to traffic two Nigerian girls into Ghana under the guise of getting them a job in the country.

One of the victims was a 20-year-old fashion designer, the other, a 19-year-old girl who had just completed her secondary education. Both were being transported to the Western North Region when they were rescued.

Already, two other girls brought along with the rescued girls had been “removed by the trafficker’s accomplices to an unknown destination” before the arrival of GIS officers.

Intelligence received by the Command exposed the suspect and indicated that she had, through an agent in Nigeria, lured and recruited all four ladies for her prostitution business in Ghana.

Preliminary investigations gathered that the four ladies were recruited and tricked into believing that they would be offered lucrative jobs as salesgirls in Ghana but were to be distributed to some unknown female prostitute kingpins, precisely in Enchi in the Western North Region of Ghana, authorities said.

Further investigation revealed that it was a case of an abused becoming an abuser as Chidi was once a victim brought to Ghana to work for a female trafficker at Enchi. After serving for four months and paying all expenses incurred on her as part of her recruitment deal, she was set free.

She then decided to start running her own prostitution ring, authorities said.

At press time, the suspect and the victims had all been referred to GIS headquarters for further investigations and action.
