Thursday, 5th April, 2018 marked the day for the extension of intervention programme of the National Lottery Trust Fund to secondary schools in Nigeria. In line with its mandate of implementation of projects approved by President Muhammad Buhari, the federal government agency procured Customised Medical First Aid Cabinets for distribution to public secondary school in the thirty-six states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory. At the flag-off of the programme in Abuja, nine secondary school’s selected from Nigeria’s capital city were beneficiaries of the Medical First Aid Cabinet.
The secondary schools were represented by their principals who were presented with letters designed for the collection of the medical facilities.
The essence is to promote access to quality healthcare for students at their places of learning nationwide. The intervention is also aimed at reducing the high rate of injuries among the school children and to promote proper management of emergency situations.
The guest of honour at the flag-off ceremony who is the Permanent Secretary –Special Duties, office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Chief Williams Alo reiterated the commitment of President Muhammadu Buhari led administration to apply resources to socio-economic sector relevant to the welfare of Nigerians.
The Chairman, Board of Trustees of the National Lottery Trust Fund, Honourable Christopher Eta applauded the agency and its management staff for the initiative of the intervention.
It is also the desire of the trustees chairman to see that the NLTF establish new collection system for lottery proceeds and increase revenues and growth of lottery market in Nigeria.
The Acting Executive Secretary, National Lottery Trust Fund, Malam Bello Maigari appealed to the benefiting schools to ensure the security and judicious use of the customised medical cabinets. He said the NLTF will not relent in its effort to assist government agencies who are in need as it has done in the past.
In the year 2017, the NLTF distributed sports equipment covering nine (9) sports to 2000 primary schools in the 36 states of the federation and the FCT. Nigeria’s participation in the 2007 All Africa Games in Algiers –Algeria, was financially supported by the NLTF. In 2009, the participation of Nigeria Police in the West African Games was also sponsored by the Lottery Trust Fund, the Acting Executive Secretary, Bello Maigari enumerated.
