The ex-Minister, who represented Nasarawa-North Senatorial District from 2011-2015 was on his way to the FCT when the gunmen abducted him.

Ewuga was vice-chairman of three different Senate committees during his tenure at the National Assembly.

Confirming the incident on Wednesday, Ramhan Nansel, spokesman of the police command in Nasarawa, said officers were mobilised immediately to successfully rescue the ex-minister after they got a report of the abduction.

Nansel said though no arrest was made; the police are working to ensure that those behind the kidnapping are prosecuted.

“The former senator was on his way to Abuja and was kidnapped at about 20:40 hours, but due to mounted pressure by men of the Nigerian Police Force who were alerted on time, moved into the forest and rescued the senator.

“No arrest was made, but the command is not relaxing over the matter to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to book as the investigation is ongoing.

“As I speak with you, the state commissioner of police, Mr Adesina Soyemi, has ordered operatives of the command to move into the forest for possible arrest of the criminals,” Nansel said.
