Nigeria’s Cycling Team secures 3rd spot at Tour Int’l du Togo, wins 3 trophies

In the exciting conclusion of the Tour International du Togo, Team Nigeria Cycling achieved a remarkable third-place finish, adding to their accolades in the cycling world.

The 2024 International Cycling Tour of Togo created a platform for nine nations to come together, showcasing their skill and passion for cycling on the global stage.

Bashiru Mohammed, the technical director of Nigeria Cycling Federation (CFN), shared the team’s success with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.

“Our team proudly clinched three trophies, with notable achievements including first position in individual points for Under 23 Elite and Under 23 categories, as well as securing third place in the team classification points,” Mohammed stated.

Expressing his admiration for the team’s performance, Mohammed assured continued support from the Federation.

“I had full confidence in our team’s capabilities to excel in this competition, and we certainly lived up to expectations,” he affirmed.

Abdulmalik Yusuf’s outstanding feat of wearing the yellow jersey on the fourth stage added to the team’s accomplishments, along with the distribution of honorary jerseys throughout the competition.

Paying homage to the late Francis Ducreux, one of the driving forces behind the Tour International du Togo, the event was not just a sporting competition but a tribute to cycling legends.

The challenging 29th edition of the Tour Cycliste of Togo saw cyclists covering over 700 kilometers through various towns and cities, culminating in a rewarding experience for all participants.

Represented by a dedicated nine-member contingent, Team Nigeria showcased their talent and determination on the global stage.

As the Mali squad secured second place and Burkina Faso emerged victorious, Team Nigeria’s remarkable third-place finish underscored their commitment to excellence in cycling.

Other participating teams from Cote d’Ivoire, Togo, France, Ghana, Benin, and Cedeao showcased the diversity and talent within the cycling community.

With the Tour International du Togo marked by a new era of local partnership and strategic collaboration, the event embodied the spirit of sportsmanship and celebration of cycling prowess.
