Senate President, Senator Ahmed Lawan, Northern Governors, Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, Chief of Staff, Alhaji Ibrahim Gambari, and Secretary to Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, are in crucial meeting over insecurity in the North and in Nigeria.
The meeting, which kicked off at the Council Chambers of Sir Kashim Ibrahim House Kaduna 12 pm on Monday, and was hosted by Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State, also had in attendance the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, and FCT Minister, Malam Mohammed Bello.
The governors present at the meeting include the host, El-Rufai, Chairman Northern States Governors Forum, Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State, Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto state, Governor Bello Matawale of Zamfara state, Deputy Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Nasiru Gawuna, and Deputy Governor of Katsina State, Alhaji Mannir Yakubu, among others.
Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno state is being expected at the time of filing this report.
The Northern Traditional Council members in attendance apart from the Sultan include the Etsu Nupe, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, the Emir of Bauchi among other Emirs and traditional chiefs from across the North.
Though there are no hints on what the crux of the meeting was, Newsmen investigations revealed that the meeting, which comes over a week after the Northern governors emergency security meeting at the same venue, has to do with the recent #EndSars protest, the spate of looting and destructions that followed across the North, the kidnappings, armed banditry and cattle rustling ravaging parts of the north.
The meeting, which has in attendance all the elites and juggernauts of Northern extraction in President Buhari’s administration, may have been charged with the mandate of charting a way forward for youth development, as a means of addressing the insecurity facing the Northern region with many of its people living away from their houses in IDP camps, while others can hardly go to their farms, nearby markets or even sleep in their houses without fear of being kidnapped.
