NSCDC arrests NNPCL truck driver for diverting 10,000 litres fuel

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Osun Command, has apprehended an NNPCL truck driver, Afeez Adegbola, accused of diverting 10,000 litres of petrol. The fuel, originally meant for the NNPCL Mega Station in Osogbo, was allegedly partially redirected to a private filling station in Ikirun.

Commandant Igbalawole Sotiyo disclosed the arrest, stating that the truck, loaded with 40,000 litres of petrol at Pinnacle Distribution Depot, Eleko, Lagos, delivered only 30,000 litres to the intended Osogbo station. NSCDC officers, acting on a tip-off, tracked the vehicle and found the remaining fuel at TEMPOLA filling station in Ikirun.

Sotiyo condemned the act, describing it as economic sabotage. “Such acts undermine the state’s resources and integrity. We are committed to prosecuting anyone involved in this theft,” he warned.

The suspects reportedly admitted the truck was directed by their company to distribute only part of the consignment to the Osogbo station and deliver the remaining fuel elsewhere. The NSCDC urged NNPCL managers to collaborate in safeguarding petroleum distribution channels.

This arrest underscores the Corps’ resolve to curb fuel diversion and enforce transparency in distribution. “There’s a new sheriff in town,” Sotiyo remarked, cautioning potential offenders in Osun State.
