NYSC mourns corps member Grace Chalya Silas, killed in Kaduna

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has expressed its condolences following the murder of one of its corps members, Grace Chalya Silas, who was stabbed to death by unknown assailants in Kaduna State.

Chalya, with registration number: KD/23A/4386, was reportedly attacked by hoodlums while jogging in the early hours of Wednesday, October 18, 2023.

The attackers made off with her phone after stabbing her.

A person who found her alerted her colleagues, and she was rushed to Harmony Hospital Limited in Barnawa, Kaduna, by the NYSC management for prompt medical attention, however, she passed away.

Reacting to Chalya’s tragic death, the NYSC expressed condolences to her family, her colleagues, and her employer, among others.

In a statement signed by Eddy Megwa, Director of Press and Public Relations, the NYSC announced that it is collaborating with various security agencies to identify the perpetrators of the crime and bring them to justice.

“Members of the public are enjoined to cooperate with the security agencies in ensuring that all corps members who are deployed to contribute their quota to national development by serving in their communities are adequately protected.

“Corps members are our children, our sisters and brothers and they must be protected by all Nigerians,” the statement added.
