According to police authorities, the tragic incident occurred when a large crowd gathered to receive charitable donations (zakat) organised by private individuals as part of Ramadan humanitarian activities. Eyewitnesses said the situation became chaotic as beneficiaries surged forward in an attempt to access the distributed items.
Police spokespersons stated that several others sustained injuries in the stampede and were rushed to nearby medical facilities for treatment. Security operatives were later deployed to restore order and prevent further escalation.
The command expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and assured the public that an investigation is underway to determine the circumstances that led to the overcrowding and subsequent stampede.
