Obasanjo’s in-law, Abebe, sentenced to 7 years imprisonment 

Nigeria’s former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo’s in-law, John Abebe, has been sentenced to seven years in prison for forgery and money laundering.

Abebe who is the a younger brother of the late former First Lady, Stella Obasanjo, was sentenced on Friday by Justice Mojisola Dada of Ikeja Special Offences Court in Lagos.

Justice Dada, however, gave the convict an option of a fine of N50 million to be paid within 30 days in lieu of imprisonment.

The trial judge gave the judgement after it was established that the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt and convicted Abebe accordingly.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had arraigned Abebe before the court.

The anti-graft agency had arraigned Abebe before the court in a charge which claimed he (Abebe) “knowingly forged” a November 30, 1995 letter written by BP Exploration Nigeria Limited to Inducon Limited.
