Terrorists kill police officer, nine soldiers in Kebbi ambush
Armed gunmen have reportedly killed a police officer and nine soldiers in a deadly ambush in Shanga Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The attack occurred in the Giro Masa community, where security operatives had been tracking the movements of suspected gunmen believed to be operating in the area. Acting on intelligence from residents, troops were deployed to a construction company yard where the suspects were said to be hiding.
However, the security team was ambushed en route to the location, leading to a fierce confrontation that resulted in multiple casualties. The police officer and nine soldiers were reportedly killed in the attack, while two military trucks were set ablaze by the assailants.
Governor Nasir Idris later visited victims receiving treatment at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Birnin Kebbi.
Speaking to journalists after the visit, the governor described the incident as tragic and reiterated the government’s commitment to security in the state.
He assured that the state would take responsibility for the medical care of the injured and provide support to the families of the deceased security personnel.
“Everybody knows that the government of Kebbi does not joke with security issues. We have seen the situation ourselves and directed the hospital management to ensure proper treatment for those injured,” he said.
He added that the government would do everything possible to assist the bereaved families, describing the attack as a painful loss to the state and the nation.
