Yobe State Governor grants automatic jobs to 416 Nursing graduates
Mai Mala Buni, Governor of Yobe State, has approved the automatic employment of 416 graduates from the Shehu Sule College of Nursing Sciences, Damaturu.
The announcement was made during the graduation ceremony of student nurses and midwives held in Damaturu, where the governor was represented by his deputy, Idi Barde Gubana.
Buni said the decision reflects his administration’s sustained investment in the health sector to address manpower shortages and improve service delivery across the state’s health facilities.

He noted that over the past seven years, government funding of the college has yielded positive outcomes, producing qualified personnel to strengthen healthcare services.
According to the governor, more than 3,500 healthcare workers have been employed in recent years, with many drawn from the institution, as part of efforts to ensure efficient and accessible healthcare for residents.
He added that the state has also established a modern Biomedical Research and Training Centre at the state university to promote scientific research and develop local expertise in the health sector.

Buni assured the college management of continued government support and pledged to address challenges facing the institution to enhance its capacity as a leading training centre.
The governor also commended the outgoing Provost, Hadiza Sabo, for her leadership and contributions to maintaining high academic standards.
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Mohammed Lawan Gana, revealed that Yobe recently ranked as Nigeria’s best-performing state in primary healthcare delivery in an assessment conducted by the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, earning a $1.2 million reward.

Earlier, the provost disclosed that between 2019 and 2026, the college produced 1,485 graduates, all of whom were automatically employed, significantly boosting healthcare workforce capacity in the state.
The latest batch includes 158 community nurses, 196 basic nurses and midwives, and 62 Higher National Diploma graduates in nursing.
