BSO Inaugurates New Leadership, Reaffirms Commitment to Education, Community Development
The Buni Scholars Organisation (BSO) has inaugurated its newly elected leadership after what it described as a free, fair and credible electoral process, marking a new chapter in its commitment to service and development.
The inauguration ceremony, attended by members and key stakeholders, signalled not only a transition of leadership but also a renewed focus on the organisation’s core values of excellence, unity and impactful service.
In a statement issued at the event, the organisation expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah for His guidance. It also paid tribute to its Grand Patron and mentor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, CON, COMN, whose contributions to education were described as instrumental in shaping the lives of beneficiaries.
BSO further acknowledged the role of Dr. Kagu Abubakar, praising his leadership in implementing the scholarship scheme. The organisation also commended the Yobe State Scholarship Board and its staff for their contributions to the programme’s success.
The Selection and Screening Committee, led by Professor Shariff Almuhajjir, was recognised for ensuring transparency, merit and fairness in the selection process.
Highlighting its impact, the organisation noted that it has conducted medical outreaches across the 17 Local Government Areas of Yobe State and implemented various livelihood support initiatives. It pledged to expand these interventions in the coming years.
BSO also spotlighted the Buni Foreign Scholarship Scheme under the Recovery through Education and Scholarships (RETES) framework. According to the organisation, the initiative has sponsored 233 scholars in critical fields including Nursing, Pharmacy, Medical Laboratory Science, Radiography, Optometry, Physiotherapy, Engineering, Agricultural Science and Business. Beneficiaries have since been absorbed into the Yobe State Civil Service.
The organisation expressed appreciation to the Commissioner for Higher Education and Technology, Dr. Bello Kawuwa, for his support and representation at the event, describing it as a sign of the ministry’s commitment to education and youth development.

The event concluded with a pledge by the new leadership to uphold the organisation’s ideals and contribute to the development of Yobe State and Nigeria.
BSO reaffirmed its commitment to advancing education, promoting community development and fostering sustainable progress, while calling for continued collaboration with stakeholders at both national and international levels.
