Kano mother dies hours after giving birth to quintuplets as five babies survive
Hafsat Yusuf, the woman who delivered quintuplets at Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital in Kano, has died.
Her husband, Salisu Nafiu, confirmed the incident on Thursday morning, revealing that she passed away at the hospital around 1:00 a.m.
He noted, however, that all five babies—three boys and two girls—are alive and currently receiving medical care at the facility.
Nafiu did not disclose further details regarding the circumstances surrounding her death.
Hafsat had earlier delivered the quintuplets via Caesarean section at about 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
Her husband, a tricycle rider, had expressed gratitude following the successful delivery, describing it as her ninth childbirth. He also commended the hospital’s medical team for providing special care to the newborns to ensure their wellbeing.
Meanwhile, the Kano State Government has announced plans to assume full responsibility for the medical care of the quintuplets.
The state Ministry of Health said the move is part of ongoing efforts to improve maternal and child healthcare and reduce mortality rates.
