Kano hisbah arrests 22, including hotel manager, over alleged immoral activities

The Kano State Hisbah Board has arrested 22 individuals, including the manager of Stephrica Guest Palace in Kureken Sani, Kumbotso Local Government Area, over alleged immoral conduct.

The suspects were apprehended on Wednesday during a raid on the facility following intelligence reports from concerned residents.

Confirming the development, the Deputy Commandant of the board, Dr Mujahid Aminudeen, disclosed that those arrested include 10 males and 11 females, most of whom are teenagers aged between 12 and 19.

“The suspects were arrested after credible reports indicated that they were gathered in the hotel engaging in activities considered immoral,” he said.

He expressed concern over the involvement of underage persons and warned hotel operators against allowing minors access to their premises or risk facing sanctions.

Aminudeen added that the identities of the suspects, including the hotel manager, would be made public after due legal processes are completed.

He further stated that all those arrested would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

The Hisbah Board reiterated its commitment to enforcing moral standards in line with Shari’a law and urged residents to continue providing useful information to support its operations.

The Kano State Hisbah Board is a government-backed body tasked with promoting social order and ensuring compliance with Islamic moral codes. Its operations include monitoring and addressing activities such as alcohol consumption, prostitution, and public indecency.

Kano State operates a dual legal system that combines civil law with Shari’a law, particularly in matters relating to moral conduct among Muslims. Over the years, the Hisbah Board has carried out similar enforcement actions, often cautioning business owners against facilitating activities deemed unlawful under the state’s moral framework.
