One dead, another injured in accident involving governor’s convoy
A tragic accident involving a vehicle from the convoy of Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, occurred on Sunday in Ihugh, Vandeikya Local Government Area, claiming one life and injuring another.
Sources reported that the accident happened on an untarred road where heavy dust impaired visibility. Governor Alia had been in his local government area for four days, celebrating Christmas.
The incident occurred as the convoy was en route to church when the lead vehicle veered off the road, likely due to poor visibility, and collided with a motorcycle.
One person was killed, and another sustained injuries in the crash. A source revealed that the vehicle involved was initially part of the convoy but was no longer with it when the accident happened.
Confirming the incident, Solomon Iorpev, the Governor’s Technical Adviser on Media, Publicity, and Strategic Communication, clarified that the crash occurred after the Governor had already attended church. He noted that the vehicle was on a separate mission and was not travelling with the main convoy at the time of the incident.

“The accident happened when the vehicle tried to avoid an oncoming car and unfortunately rammed into a motorcycle due to poor road visibility caused by dust,” Iorpev stated.
While Iorpev did not confirm the casualties, he expressed regret over the unfortunate event. Meanwhile, Catherine Anene, the spokesperson for the Benue State Police Command, disclosed that the case had not yet been officially reported to the police.
