Ex-Senate President launches free medical outreach, animal vaccination in Yobe
Senator Ahmad Lawan, former Senate President, has launched the 2024 edition of his free animal vaccination and medical outreach in Yobe North Senatorial District through his SAIL Foundation.
Speaking at the flag-off event held in Machina, Yobe State, Lawan lauded President Bola Tinubu for creating the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development, describing it as a significant step toward improving Nigeria’s agricultural sector.
In a statement dated December 29, 2024, Lawan revealed that this year’s intervention marks the 8th consecutive edition of the programme. He stated:
“The free animal vaccination programme is a way of safeguarding the health of our animals and ensuring the sustainability of our agricultural sector. The programme covers donkeys, horses, cattle, goats, sheep, and poultry against diseases such as contagious bovine pleural pneumonia for cattle; and peste des petits ruminants for sheep and goats.”
The initiative includes a wide range of services for livestock and humans. While the vaccination was flagged off in Machina Local Government Area, the free medical outreach commenced at the Federal Medical Centre, Nguru, and the Yobe State Specialist Hospital, Gashua.
Lawan emphasized the importance of the initiative, stating, “Over the years, this programme has become an indispensable part of my service to Yobe North constituents. It provides critical healthcare services to thousands of families who may have otherwise lacked access to them.”

The free medical outreach includes eye treatments and surgeries, gynaecological check-ups, cancer screenings for women, free surgical services, and the distribution of essential drugs.
Senator Lawan reaffirmed his commitment to improving the health and well-being of his constituents and their livestock, underlining that these annual initiatives are vital to the region’s agricultural sustainability and public health.
