Taofeek Ibikunle, a 43-year-old man, appeared before a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Osogbo, Osun State, on 17th October 2023, for conspiring to commit felony, threatening the life of another person, and maliciously damaging a perimeter fence valued at N25,342,000.

The alleged crimes took place at Elizabeth Estate, Abere, in July 2023.

According to the charge preferred against Ibikunle, he had threatened to kill one Badmus Oladapo and sent hoodlums to attack him at a construction site in the estate, he, however, pleaded not guilty to the four-count charge during his court hearing.

The offences committed by the defendant were said to be contrary to, and punishable under Sections 516 and 451 of the Criminal Code Cap, 34 Vol.II Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002.

The presiding magistrate, Segun Ayilara, admitted Ibikunle to bail in the sum of N500,000 and adjourned the matter till November 21, 2023.

Reports suggest that Elizabeth Estate, Abere, is a high-end residential area that boasts high-quality infrastructure and security measures. The alleged actions of Ibikunle are said to have caused significant damage to the perimeter fence, causing a huge financial loss to the estate developers.

The case highlights the importance of security and safety in gated communities and residential areas, as an attack or malicious damage can cause harm to both people and property. It is necessary for law enforcement agencies to carry out their responsibilities in apprehending and prosecuting offenders who breach the peace and tranquillity of residential areas.

It is expected that the case will continue to play out in court with the defendant and his legal team expected to present their defense.

The case has also generated significant public interest, calling for more measures to be put in place to ensure the safety and security of residents in residential areas.
