Pastor allegedly defiles 4-year-old in Anambra

A 56-year-old pastor, Emeka Mkama, has been accused of defiling a four-year-old girl in Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The incident, which took place on December 24, 2024, came to light today after it was reported to the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike, and the Chairman of Idemili North LGA, Chief Stanley Nkwoka.

The case remained undisclosed until an officer at Model Primary Health Centre in Obosi (name withheld) alerted the Supervisor of Health in Idemili North. Mkama, originally from Ebonyi State, is a pastor at the Jesus Build the Church Mission in Obosi.

A relative of the victim, who wished to remain anonymous, revealed that the child had been unwell since the incident, but the family had initially refrained from reporting it. The situation only escalated when the child’s condition worsened after receiving herbal treatment, prompting her mother to report the matter to the health facility. During questioning, the child disclosed that Mkama, who had been in detention since December, may soon be released unless legal action is taken.

In response, Nonye Soludo, the wife of Anambra State’s governor, has intervened in the case. According to a statement from her media aide, Daniel Ezeigwe, Mrs. Soludo received the official reports and immediately directed that the child’s health be closely monitored. She has also ensured that all legal measures are pursued to secure justice.

Furthermore, Mrs. Soludo instructed the Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Ify Obinabo, to handle the case and ensure that all legal avenues are fully explored to hold the alleged perpetrator accountable. She condemned the ‘culture of silence’ surrounding such serious crimes, emphasizing that tackling domestic and sexual violence requires people to speak out.
