Peace Day: International Alert trains Bauchi women on peace, social inclusion

As part of the celebration of the 2021 international peace day, a non-governmental organization called ‘International Alert’ on Tuesday trained selected women in Bauchi State on peacebuilding.
The organization also trained the participants on social inclusion and empowerment during the two days workshop.
Speaking at the occasion, the managing director of International Alert in Bauchi State, Jennifer Dashe advocated an all-inclusive peace policy where every citizen would be carried along towards overcoming the myriad of security challenges facing the country.

She explained that training women on social inclusion and empowerment could bring about the rapid socio-economic development of the society.
According to her, women constitute a greater percentage of the population, hence the need to involve them in identifying areas of challenge and surmounting them.
Jennifer who argued that women and children are the most affected in conflict situations called for greater women participation and inclusion in decision making.
Earlier, the Senior Project Officer International Alert, Sunday Jimoh and representative of a partner organisation Taimako Community Initiative, Bashir Usman underscored the need for authorities to ensure equity and representation in all policies and programs.
In her remarks, a facilitator at the workshop Mrs Lydia Shehu charged the participants to work towards removing barriers impeding women’s participation in the peace process and social inclusion in their respective domains.
