PENGASSAN agrees to end strike – FG
The Federal Government announced on Tuesday that the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has agreed to call off its nationwide strike following two days of conciliation meetings with Dangote Petroleum management.
The talks, held on September 29 and 30, were convened by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi, and included senior government officials, security agencies, and labour representatives.
According to a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting, PENGASSAN leadership explained that its directives to halt gas supply and withdraw services were reactions to the dismissal of over 800 of its members.
Dangote management, in its response, maintained that the terminations were part of a company reorganisation.

As a result of the agreement, Dangote is expected to initiate the process of reassigning the disengaged staff across other firms within its group, ensuring there is no loss of pay.
The communiqué also stated that no worker will be victimised for participating in the industrial dispute.
On the right to unionise, the communiqué reinforced that “unionisation is a right of workers in accordance with the laws of Nigeria” and that this right must be protected.
PENGASSAN has committed to begin the formal procedure of calling off the strike “in good faith,” as stipulated by the truce accord.

The agreement marks a shift from confrontation toward resolution, as both sides move to operationalise the terms reached.
Earlier in the week, PENGASSAN had instructed its members to withdraw services from key regulatory agencies and cut gas supplies to Dangote.
The strike had threatened to disrupt fuel supply and energy operations across sectors of the economy.
Government officials said that the successful mediation underscores the importance of dialogue in resolving industrial conflicts.
