Police arrest 11 for impregnating Kebbi mentally unstable minor

Police in Kebbi State have arrested 11 suspects for allegedly impregnating a 13-year-old girl described as mentally unstable.

The suspects, all residents of Tungar Giwa village in Shanga Local Government Area of the state, were accused of luring the girl with cash gifts ranging from ₦200 to ₦500 before engaging her in multiple sexual encounters.

According to the police, the victim gives birth to a baby boy on July 8, 2025.

Police spokesperson in the state, Nafiu Abubakar, in a statement on Saturday said, “The suspects took advantage of the 13-year-old girl, who walked around in the village due to unsound mind by giving her money, and had sexual intercourse with her which resulted to pregnancy.”

Abubakar said officers from Shanga Division, acting on credible intelligence, arrested the suspects on July 13, adding that they allegedly confessed to the crime.

He said the Commissioner of Police, Bello Sani, had ordered the State Criminal Investigation Department to pursue the remaining two suspects still at large, stating the command remained committed to justice.
