Police arrest 200-level student for kidnapping, murder of FUNAAB undergraduate

Ayomide Adeleye, a 200-level Philosophy student at Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) in Ogun State, has been arrested for the kidnapping and murder of Christianah Idowu, a 300-level student at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB).

Adeleye and Idowu were known to each other through their church in Ogun State. On the day of the crime, Christianah was en route to the University of Lagos (UNILAG) for an industrial training when she was caught in heavy rain. She sought refuge at Adeleye’s family shop, located near his home.

Adeleye, who was familiar with Christianah from their mutual school and church, invited her into his residence to escape the rain. Once inside, Adeleye allegedly attempted to assault Christianah. When she resisted, he murdered her.

Following her disappearance, Adeleye used Christianah’s phone to contact her family, demanding a ransom of N3 million, which was eventually negotiated down to N350,000. His attempt at extortion led to his capture when police traced the ransom transactions to him using his bank details and BVN.
