Police arrest Kano anti-graft chair for seizing Ganduje’s assets

A team constituted by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun has arrested Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (KASPCAC) Chairman, Muhuyi Rimingado, for the confiscation of property allegedly linked to All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje.

Sources in the Commission confirmed to SolaceBase that IGP Monitoring Unit officers, led by Assistant Superintendent of Police Ahmed Bello, visited the Commission and announced that they were instructed to take Rimingado into custody.

The controversy revolves around the trial of Bala Inuwa, former Managing Director of Kano Agricultural Supply Company Limited (KASCO), who is accused of diverting over N4 billion in public funds.

The trial, which began in November 2023 before Judge Hafsat Yahaya at Kano High Court, led to an order to seize properties linked to the case, including funds in bank accounts, pending the determination of the suit.

Inuwa in 2024 filed a separate suit before Judge Aisha Ya’u at another Kano High Court, which resulted in an order directing the removal of police officers stationed at Limestone Processing Links where the seized properties were stored.

However, the Anti-Corruption Commission claimed it was unaware of the suit and was not joined as a party, despite being the entity responsible for the confiscation.

The Commission filed a stay of execution of the order, arguing that it should be joined in the suit as the police were only providing security for the confiscated properties under the Commission’s authority.

Rimingado announced two weeks ago that KAROTA personnel had been directed to transfer the seized items, valued at over N2 billion – including trailers, trucks, and minivans – from Kumbotso Council to a state government warehouse in Nasarawa GRA.

He said the action is in line with Section 40 of Kano Anti-Corruption law which empowers the Commission to manage confiscated properties while a case is ongoing.

According to sources, during a recent meeting at Kano Police Headquarters, Inuwa allegedly claimed that the confiscated items belong to Ganduje (former Kano Governor) who insisted no one could take them from him.

The IGP Monitoring Unit reportedly arrested Rimingado on Friday evening, detained him at Zone 1 Police Headquarters in Kano, and his lawyers were allegedly denied access to him.
