Police help recover ₦23.6m gold buried by woman in Borno

Story by Mercy Adaje

The Borno State Police Command has recovered gold valued at ₦23.6 million for a woman who buried the valuables in the Mallam Fatori area while escaping a Boko Haram attack 15 years ago.

The recovery was confirmed in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Daso, who noted that the woman—whose identity was withheld—returned to the community after many years and sought police assistance to retrieve the items she had hidden during the insurgency.

According to Daso, the state Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Abdulmajid, praised the Divisional Police Officer of Mallam Fatori and his team for their integrity and professionalism throughout the operation.

He disclosed that officers successfully recovered 22 carats of gold worth approximately ₦20 million, in addition to a gold bracelet and chain valued at ₦3.6 million, through careful and coordinated efforts.
