Police in Abuja arrest driver who specialises in stealing vehicles from corporate organisations

The police in Abuja have arrested a young man who gave his name simply as Mr Bamidele for car theft.

Mr Bamidele usually applies for drivers job in government agencies and private organisations, but when he is given the job and handed over a car, he would run away and sells it in far away locations.

Mr Bamidele, in his confession said he and his gang members specialise in stealing vehicles from mostly government agencies and private companies.

The FCT Police Command spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, Saturday in Abuja, said, “When he applies for a job as a driver, a car would be assigned to him, with which he would zoom off with the vehicle to other states and sells it off at an annoying price.”

SP Adeh said the police were able to recover two vehicles, Toyota bus and a car from Mr Bamidele and his gang members.

“We sold the bus at N800,000 and the car at One Million naira,” Mr Bamidele confessed.

The vehicles were picked at different locations, one in Lagos, the other in Abuja. So far we had stolen six vehicles belonging to different organisations and individuals.

The FCT Police Command warned that in order to avoid similar incident from happening, corporate organisations and individuals should contact the police before giving employment.

“The FCT Police Command advise institutions and the general public to check the profiles of their prospective employees for sensitive positions with the police before giving them appointment,” SP Adeh said.
