Police officer dies, another injured after mixer truck veers off road in Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) police command has confirmed the death of one officer and the injury of another after a mixer truck veered off the Sani Abacha Expressway in Abuja.

In a statement on Wednesday, police spokesperson Josephine Adeh said the incident occurred around 2:20 p.m. on December 3 near the National Ecumenical Centre. Preliminary investigations revealed that the truck, driven by Salman Usman, an employee of a construction company in Wuse Zone 5, lost control and crashed at the scene.

Two officers on official duty were struck, leaving one dead and the other undergoing treatment.

Adeh described the tragedy as a stark reminder of the risks faced by police personnel while safeguarding lives and managing traffic in the capital city. She added that the truck driver has been detained, and all vehicles involved have been recovered for further investigation and safety checks.

FCT Commissioner of Police, Miller Dantawaye, condoled with the family and colleagues of the fallen officer and prayed for the swift recovery of the injured. He assured that a thorough probe would be carried out to ensure justice.

Residents were urged to reach the command for security concerns via emergency lines 08061581938 and 08032003913.
