Police rescue 4 kidnapped hostages, arrest 17 for murder
The Nigeria Police Force has recorded remarkable achievements in two major operations, successfully rescuing four kidnapped hostages in Imo State and arresting 17 individuals implicated in a murder case in Ebonyi State.
The Imo State Police Command carried out a daring rescue operation on Saturday, following a distress call about the abduction of four individuals in Umuokanne, Ohaji Local Government Area.
According to the Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, the operatives acted promptly, tracking down the criminal hideout. Upon arrival, they engaged in a gunfight with the kidnappers, leading to the neutralization of two suspects.

During the operation, the police rescued the four victims unharmed and recovered significant weaponry, including: One AK-47 rifle, One AK-47 magazine, 21 rounds of live 7.62mm ammunition.
Adejobi praised the swift response of the officers, stating, “The police remain committed to combating heinous crimes like kidnapping and ensuring the safety and security of all residents.”
In another incident, the Ebonyi State Command arrested 17 suspects linked to the gruesome murder of Uromchi Okorocha, accused by local youths of witchcraft and spiritual killings.
The incident occurred in Enohia Itim village, Afikpo Local Government Area, where the suspects captured Okorocha, accusing him of involvement in multiple deaths through alleged spiritual means.
Instead of turning him over to law enforcement, the suspects resorted to jungle justice. By the time police operatives from the Uwanna Division arrived, the victim had been killed and set ablaze.
Force spokesperson Adejobi condemned the act, saying, “Citizens must refrain from taking the law into their own hands. The police will ensure that perpetrators of such heinous acts are brought to justice.”
Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun also expressed his outrage, describing jungle justice as “a threat to the rule of law and societal peace.”
The IGP urged Nigerians to collaborate with the police, reporting suspicious activities and refraining from acts of vigilante justice.
He emphasized, “The Nigeria Police Force is unwavering in its commitment to justice and public safety. Citizens must engage with security agencies to help create a crime-free environment.”
