Top Boy star Ashley Walters has become a grandfather at the age of 38.

The actor took to Instagram on Monday morning to share the happy news as one of his eight children welcomed a baby girl called Neveah Jade Walters.

Alongside an image of the adorable newborn, the former So Solid Crew rapper wrote in a sweet caption: ‘Wow. How good is God ❤️ Meet my granddaughter guys. Neveah Jade Walters 6/12/2020. Well done Son. I’m so proud of you and T. More life.’

The artist received support from his Bulletproof co-star Noel Clarke, who wrote: ‘WHA!!!1st – Congrats bro. And congrats to the whole family. God is good.

‘2nd – What a great birthday to have. 3rd – You’re a grandad now. You will never hear the end of this from me!!! Love ya man.’ (sic)

Ashley didn’t specify which one of his kids had a child, but he shares sons Shayon, 20, and Panerai, 17, and daughter China, 19, with his former partner Natalie Williams.

The media personality also has two young daughters Antonia and Ashleigh with another woman, while he shares Amiaya-Love, seven, and River, four, and a stepson with his wife of seven years, actress Danielle Isaie.

On fatherhood, the TV star said in a 2016 interview with the Guardian: ‘I call myself an every dad. I have so many different things going on.

‘It can be crazy, juggling it all, both of us working, too. I’ve called two of my children this week, but I need to call the others. I find it a challenge + sometimes to have all that responsibility.’

The thespian, who has spent time in prison in the past, added in a separate interview with The Mirror: ‘Even if I wanted to lie to them, I couldn’t, because they’re old enough to read and there are newspapers, the news, their friends tell them stuff and there’s the internet as well – it’s all readily available.

‘Since day one, I’ve always been honest about my life and the stuff I’ve done wrong. I make mistakes, sometimes in front of them, I’m not going to lie, but I always address it and tell them it was a mistake and something I’m not proud of.

‘Everyone in this world’s going to make mistakes, but the thing that’s going to stop you making them is understanding why you made them. I encourage them to do that.’

Earlier this year, Netflix confirmed Top Boy will be back with a second season.

The streaming service revealed the crime drama series, starring the likes of Ashley as leading character Dushane and 2020 EE BAFTA Rising Star recipient Micheal Ward as Jamie, kicked off filming.

The production company revived the hit show late last year after Channel 4 decided to cancel the first two series, which originally aired in 2011 and 2013.

Just weeks after its release in September 2019, Toy Boy became one of Netflix’s most-watched shows.

The drama follows the story of Dushane (Ashley) and Sully (Kano), who lead East London’s underground drug scene.

Executive producer and chart-topping rapper Drake revealed he was inspired to work on the series after stumbling across the show in 2017.

The artist told the Hollywood Reporter at the time: ‘That human element drew me in.

‘I started just looking them up. Like, who are these people? Are these actors I should know? Are they just famous over there? I remember I hit Future, and I was just like, “This show is incredible.”‘
