Potiskum specialist hospital commends Senator Bomai for N1M donation to combat diphtheria outbreak

Potiskum Specialist Hospital has expressed its profound gratitude to Senator Ibrahim Mohammed Bomai, who represents Yobe South, for his generous donation of N1 million to address the devastating diphtheria outbreak that has caused numerous casualties, particularly among children, in Potiskum and neighboring areas.

Dr. Ayuba Zakar, the Medical Director of the hospital, conveyed their appreciation in a statement to Neptune Prime, acknowledging Senator Bomai’s compassion and support during this critical time.

“The funds provided have facilitated the procurement of crucial medications, bringing hope and reassurance to both healthcare professionals and patients. We recognize Senator Bomai’s unwavering commitment to serve and protect the interests of his constituents.

His recent contribution to the victims of the diphtheria outbreak exemplifies his steadfast dedication to the health and well-being of the people. I assure the public that we are working diligently to contain the diphtheria outbreak in Potiskum. The donation has been immediately utilized to purchase drugs and other essential facilities that will aid in the patients’ recovery,” said Dr. Zakar.

Bukar Anguwa, the Chief Nursing Officer at the hospital, emphasized the positive impact that has been witnessed since receiving the funds, emphasizing that it will significantly enhance their efforts to contain the outbreak.

Abubakar Adamu Baba, the Head of Admin, who received the donation, expressed gratitude to Senator Ibrahim, highlighting his consistent support for the hospital even before entering politics.

Representing Senator Bomai, Ibrahim Mohammed (Ibbiyo) reasserted the senator’s commitment to contributing to societal development, emphasizing that it has always remained his top priority.

The hospital also recognized and commended the Governor of Yobe State, Hon. Mai-Mala Buni, for his relentless efforts in providing support during this challenging period.

Beyond Senator Bomai’s contribution, the hospital expressed appreciation for the immense support received from the World Health Organization, Actions against Hunger, and UNICEF in combating the diphtheria outbreak in Yobe State and the surrounding areas.

They also acknowledged the assistance provided by Dr. Lawan Gana, the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Buni on Health, Dr. Musa Baba, the Executive Secretary of the Hospitals Management Board, Dr. Umar Chiroma, the Director of Primary Health Care, and the Yobe State epidemiologist.

Previously reported by Neptune Prime, it was revealed that the suspected diphtheria outbreak in Yobe State has resulted in the tragic deaths of at least 30 children, with an additional 42 individuals hospitalized at the isolation center of Potiskum Specialist Hospital. The areas most severely affected include Tandari, Misau Road, Sabuwar Sakateriya, Arikime, Ramin Kasa, Boriya, Igwanda, and Texaco quarters.
