This is the first meeting of the National Council of State to be held since President Tinubu assumed office in May 2023.

The meeting comes just days after the #EndBadGovernance protest, during which many Nigerians took to the streets to demand good governance in the face of economic hardship caused by the removal of subsidies and the high cost of living.

The National Council of State is an important organ of the government that advises the Executive arm on policymaking. It also plays a consultative role.
