Qur’anic recitation: Yobe govt supports national competition with ₦20m
The Yobe State Government has donated ₦20 million to support participants at the 40th National Qur’anic Recitation Competition, which was held in Maiduguri, Borno State.
This was disclosed in a statement by the Press Secretary to the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Shuaibu Abdullahi. According to the statement, Governor Mai Mala Buni announced the donation during the closing ceremony of the week-long event at the University of Maiduguri’s Convocation Square.
Governor Buni, who was represented by the SSG, Alhaji Baba Malam Wali, commended Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, for successfully hosting the national competition. He also praised the Centre for Islamic Studies, Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, for organising the annual event.

The governor congratulated participants and winners, describing the competition as a platform that strengthens Islamic scholarship, moral discipline, unity and the pursuit of knowledge.
In his remarks, Governor Zulum said the successful hosting of the 2025 Qur’anic competition signalled further progress in restoring peace and stability across Borno and the wider North-East. He added that the event highlighted the region’s strong commitment to education and knowledge development.
At the end of the contest, Borno State emerged overall winner in the male category through Musa Ahmed Musa, while Kano State’s Hafsat Muhammad Sada claimed the top female prize.
