Radio station sacks popular journalist for criticizing Borno gov. on air

Story from Sadiq ABUBAKAR, Maiduguri

A radio journalist, Adamu Aliyu Ngulde, with Al-Ansar TV and radio station in Borno State has been sacked by his employer for provoking Borno State governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum.

A video of the incident which has gone viral on social media and obtained by
Neptune Prime revealed that Mr Ngulde has received the termination of appointment letter on Wednesday.

Reports gathered revealed that the journalist was sacked by the management of the station after the governor made the complaints

According to different sources, the governor claimed that a particular programme on the radio in Hausa language, Arewa Ina Mafita, meaning: North, where is the way out? is attacking his government and not balancing its reports.

He noted that the programme is deliberately providing people with an avenue to attack his government.

While expressing his grievances on the radio station, the governor also gave a directive to close it down.

He gave the directives last week while hosting some media management officials in the state on a congratulatory visit following his reelection into office.

However, the station continued to operate even after the incident with sources alleging that the management of the station had tendered apology to the governor, hence reversing his action.

A source revealed that Mr Ngulde, the anchor of AREWA INA MAFITA, said that the General Manager of Al-Ansar radio terminated his job without prior knowledge of the board of trustees.

He alleged that the GM is now facing trial before the board members for his action.

However, when contacted, Mr. Ngulde noted that his work with the station has come to an end after receiving the termination letter.

He added that he has received it in good faith and will not entertain any possible comeback even if they recall him.

Ngulde, an indigene of Borno State is a popular broadcaster in the state and the Northeast region.

His vocal prowess, mastery of the local language and professionalism has made him a popular voice in Borno and its environs.

Mr Ngulde recently got married this March.

  1. It’s very unfortunate for the maneger to react and even put centiments in it while ngulde is doing the right thing. The action of the governor shows his ignorance publically regarding the works of media.
