Relief in Kaduna as abducted Kurmin Wali worshippers regain freedom
There was palpable relief in Kurmin Wali village, located in Kaduna State, following the release of worshippers who were abducted by suspected gunmen during an attack on the community.
The incident occurred when the assailants stormed the village and targeted a place of worship, firing sporadically to scare residents before whisking away several worshippers into the surrounding bushes. The attack threw the community into panic, forcing many residents to flee their homes, while others remained indoors for fear of further violence.
In the days following the abduction, family members of the victims lived in anguish, appealing to government authorities, security agencies, and well-meaning Nigerians for intervention. Religious leaders in the area also organised special prayers, calling for the safe return of those held captive.

Sources from the community confirmed that the abducted worshippers were released on Wednesday and have since reunited with their families. They were said to be in stable condition, though some are receiving medical attention due to exhaustion and trauma suffered during captivity.
Details of how their freedom was secured remain unclear, as neither community leaders nor security agencies have officially confirmed whether a ransom was paid or if security operatives played a direct role in their release.
The Kaduna State Government and security agencies are yet to issue an official statement on the development. However, residents have renewed calls on authorities to intensify security patrols and take decisive action against banditry and kidnappings, which have continued to threaten rural communities across the state.

Community leaders warned that without improved security measures, residents remain vulnerable to further attacks, stressing the need for a sustained military and police presence in the area.
