Residents raise concerns over ITN card distribution in Damaturu
Some residents of Damaturu have raised concerns over the ongoing distribution of Insecticide Treated Net (ITN) token cards in the metropolis.
A resident, Bintu Larema, who resides around the Pompomary gidan goba area, lamented that as of Tuesday morning, distributors had not reached her neighborhood. She called on the authorities concerned to ensure that all areas within the local government are covered.
Efforts to contact the Health Promotion Officer (HPO) of Damaturu Local Government for clarification proved unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
Meanwhile, Fatima Mohammed resident of Abbari area in Damaturu expressed concern over the number of ITN cards distributed to her family. She said, “I have seven children, but I was given only one ITN card. I’m worried whether all my children will get the nets during the main distribution.”

However, another resident of Abbari, Bulama Umaru ward head of Abbari YBC who spoke to YBC, confirmed that distributors had visited his area and that the exercise went on successfully. The Ward Head of Abbari also confirmed the development,saying the exercise smooth commending the officials for their efforts and urging them to ensure that no household is left out during the main net distribution.
According to a reliable source, the ongoing Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention (SMC) and ITN distribution campaign in Damaturu is targeting 102,402 children for SMC, out of which 86,414 have been reached so far as per 21_10_2025 for ITN cards the target is 69,676 households, with 60,144 ITN distribution already covered.

The exercise is being conducted in collaboration with the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), the State Primary Health Care Development Agency (SPHCDA), and other partners, as part of efforts to curb the spread of malaria across the state.
