Residents rush to scoop diesel as fuel tanker overturns on Lagos bridge

Residents and passers-by were seen scooping diesel after a fuel tanker overturned on a major bridge in Lagos, causing traffic disruption and raising safety concerns.

The incident occurred when the tanker, laden with diesel, reportedly lost control while navigating the bridge and fell on its side, spilling its contents onto the roadway.

Eyewitnesses said moments after the accident, residents rushed to the scene with containers to scoop the leaking fuel, despite the risk of fire or explosion.

Emergency responders and security operatives later arrived to cordon off the area and control the crowd, while efforts were made to recover the tanker and prevent further spillage.

Officials warned that such actions pose serious dangers, noting that fuel spills can easily ignite and lead to loss of lives and property.

Traffic was heavily affected as authorities temporarily shut down parts of the bridge to allow for clean-up operations and ensure public safety.

As of the time of filing this report, no casualties had been confirmed, and investigations were ongoing to determine the cause of the accident.
