Saudi Arabia rejects Trump’s proposal for U.S. takeover of Gaza
Saudi Arabia has firmly rejected former U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposal for the U.S. to take control of the Gaza Strip, a Palestinian territory.
The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement condemning the suggestion, emphasizing the kingdom’s ongoing commitment to establishing an independent Palestinian state.
The statement reiterated that Palestinians would not be displaced from their land, and that Saudi Arabia would not normalize relations with Israel unless a Palestinian state was established.

The Saudi position, as reaffirmed by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, stresses the goal of creating a Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The kingdom’s stance, which has been consistently supported in various speeches, including those at the Shura Council and the Arab-Islamic Summit, calls for an end to Israeli occupation and the recognition of Palestine as a full member of the United Nations. Saudi Arabia rejected any actions that violate the rights of the Palestinian people, including Israeli settlement expansion or land annexation.
This position aligns with international resolutions, and Saudi Arabia has urged other nations to support the Palestinian cause.
The kingdom also underlined that any path to lasting peace in the region must involve granting Palestinians their legitimate rights, as recognized by international law.
Trump’s proposal, made during a White House briefing with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, suggested the U.S. would take over the Gaza Strip, manage the cleanup of the region, and relocate Palestinians to neighboring countries like Jordan and Egypt.
The idea has been met with widespread criticism, as it departs from decades of U.S. policy on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
