SEA-Hub empowers 30,654 Nigerian students with entrepreneurial skill

The Student Entrepreneurship Activity Hub (SEA-Hub) has organised its 2nd National SEA-Hub Exhibition and Competition 2022, to provide practical entrepreneurship training and select students and teachers from over 340 secondary schools in 66 Local Government Areas of 11 states including FCT.

Speaking to journalists at the exhibition held at the Musa Yar’ Adua Centre, Oladoyin Olawaiye, Head of Component-Economic Education and Entrepreneurship (EEE) said, “SEA-Hub has been introduced as a co-curricular entrepreneurship club in secondary schools to provide practical entrepreneurship training to selected students and teachers.

“The (SEA-Hub) is an initiative of the Programme Pro-Poor Growth and Promotion of Employment – SEDIN that was implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft International Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) on behalf of the German Ministry For Economics Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

Olawaiye said, “The project aims to prepare and build our young minds to practically understand the basics of running a successful business, foster opportunity recognition, innovation, risk-taking, critical thinking, and employment creation.

“SEA-Hubs are presently inaugurated and active in about 342 secondary schools with 30,654 students engaged across 11 states of Niger, Ogun, Plateau, Edo, Lagos, Yobe, Kaduna, Delta, Imo, Osun, Oyo, and FCT”, she explained.

Also speaking, the coordinator of SEA-Hub in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State, Muhammad Bashir Abdullahi, said they have trained 1800 students on how to start a business with little or no capital, and about 300 of the beneficiaries have gained financial independence.

“Amongst those we have trained, some are now financially independent and are using proceeds of their business to see themselves through university”, Abdullahi said.

He called on other state governments to key into the aims and objectives of the project so that the country can begin to build a generation of Nigerians with an entrepreneurship mindset.

One of the participants, Reuben Gadu Yakubu, who is into the bakery business expressed happiness to have been trained by SEA-Hub saying he has improved in record keeping and the discipline to reinvest the profit generated from a business back into it.

Neptune Prime reports that the exhibition was attended by different schools like Edo Boys High School, Alimosho Senior Grammar School, Government Model Science College Bida, Government Secondary School Tudun Wada, and a host of others.

Participants also bagged various awards in different categories.
