UK Court jails Nigerian man for train sexual assaults, bars him from sitting near lone women
A UK court has sentenced a Nigerian national, Esosa Eguakin, to two years in prison for sexually assaulting two women on separate train journeys from Hampshire to London.
Eguakin pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual assault and was sentenced on Tuesday, 10 February, at Guildford Crown Court. In addition to the jail term, the court imposed a five-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO), restricting his movements and barring him from sitting or standing next to or opposite lone women in public settings.
The incidents occurred on commuter services heading to London Waterloo. On 21 August last year, shortly after 7:15am, Eguakin boarded a train from Fratton to London Waterloo and deliberately positioned himself behind a woman in her 30s before sexually assaulting her.

In a second incident on 6 October, shortly after 6am, he assaulted another woman on a service travelling from Eastleigh to London Waterloo. When confronted, he claimed he was attempting to retrieve a dropped phone and refused to move away. An off-duty police officer intervened and escorted him off the train at Woking, where he was arrested and detained until additional officers arrived.
Following investigations by the British Transport Police, Eguakin was formally charged with two counts of sexual assault, to which he later admitted guilt in court.
Detective Constable David Stewart described Eguakin’s conduct as “predatory and deeply distressing,” commending the victims for their courage in supporting the case and praising the swift intervention of the off-duty officer. He reiterated the police’s commitment to tackling sexual offences on public transport and urged passengers to report incidents promptly.
Authorities emphasized that the conviction and the SHPO send a strong warning that sexual misconduct on the rail network will be met with firm legal consequences.
