Slain Lagos lawyer, Omobolanle Raheem laid to rest

The remains of the late Omobolanle Raheem, who was allegedly shot by a police officer on Christmas day, were on Tuesday laid to rest by family members, lawyers, friends, and colleagues in Lagos.

The funeral service of the Lagos-based lawyer took place at the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Olive branch parish, Banana Island area of Lagos.

In his sermon at the funeral service, Pastor Okechukwu Enelamah, a former minister of industry, trade and investment, said the deceased’s “relatively short life” was full of great impacts.

He stated that the circumstances that led to the death of the lawyer elicited widespread reactions that will bring about reforms in society.

After the service, late Raheem’s corpse was taken from the church to the Vaults and Garden Cemetery along the Lekki-Epe expressway in the state where she was laid to rest in a private ceremony.

The obsequies followed a service of songs held in her honour in the church on Monday as well as a day of tributes organised by the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in honour of the deceased.

The chairman of the Lagos Branch of the NBA said during the church service, “once again, we’ve lost a member, a very, very active member of our branch. A colleague and we only pray that her soul finds rest and that the family will be consoled by the Almighty”.

Meanwhile, the trial of the suspended police officer, Drambi Vandi, accused of killing the lawyer in cold blood commenced at the Lagos State High Court, Tafawa Balewa Square on Monday.

He pleaded not guilty to the one count of murder filed against him by the state government.
