State governor suspends another Commissioner over alleged misconduct

The Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru has announced the indefinite suspension of Uchenna Igwe, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, due to allegations of gross misconduct and neglect of responsibilities.

Governor Nwifuru disclosed this while briefing journalists at the New Government House, Ochudo Centenary City in Abakaliki, the state capital.

The suspension, effective immediately, was prompted by Igwe’s failure to fulfill an important assignment related to the payment of local government pensions, a task entrusted to him by the Governor.

This brings it to a total of four commissioners that were recently suspended.

The Governor Nwifuru had late last month indefinitely suspended commissioners for housing and urban development, water resources and three-month suspension for health over dereliction of duty and gross misconduct, adding that his administration is committed to delivering people’s charter of needs.
