Student fakes own kidnapping, demands ₦50m ransom from mother

18-year-old college student, Moses Amarks, orchestrated a fake kidnapping in an attempt to extort a ₦50 million ransom from his own mother.

The student, who attends the College of Health in Kwamba, Suleja, Niger State, enlisted the help of a friend to carry out the scheme.

The plot began on July 31, when a friend of Moses called his mother, claiming her son had been abducted and demanding the hefty ransom.

Police from the Maje Division launched an investigation and initially arrested Emmanuel Moses, a 22-year-old friend who was reportedly the last person seen with the student.

However, the case took a turn on August 1 when officers located the supposedly kidnapped student, Moses Amarks, alive and well at Zuba Motor Park in Abuja. Upon questioning, Moses confessed to staging the entire event with Emmanuel.

They had also roped in Moses’s brother, Jetro, who provided a hideout for them in Karji Village, Sabon-Tasha. The police are continuing their investigation into the matter.
