Sudan, Iran agree to re-establish diplomatic ties after 7 years of conflict
Sudan and Iran have reached an agreement to restore their diplomatic ties, ending a seven-year rift between the two nations, according to a statement by the Sudanese foreign ministry.
“The decision to resume relations comes after high-level contacts in recent months”.
Both countries have committed to reopening their embassies and conducting official delegations in the near future, as per the statement. “Iran’s ISNA news agency also confirmed the agreement, emphasizing that the renewed relations will be based on mutual respect, sovereignty, equality, common interests, and peaceful coexistence”.

Sudan had severed ties with Iran in 2016 as a gesture of solidarity with Saudi Arabia after its embassy in Tehran was attacked. However, recent developments, including the restoration of relations between Riyadh and Tehran brokered by China, have paved the way for Sudan and Iran to mend their relationship.
This diplomatic breakthrough signifies a significant step forward, as Iran continues efforts to strengthen ties with neighboring Arab countries.
Meanwhile, Sudan has been grappling with internal conflicts between army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and his former deputy Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, who commands the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces.
