Suspicious fire consumes 2 lovers, 1 other lodger in Edo hotel

The Nigeria Police Command in Edo State has commenced investigation into the death of three lodgers in a hotel in Benin City.

The Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Chidi Nwabuzor, a Superintendent of Police (SP), said the lodgers, including lovers: Bright Amechi, Michael Awowea and Cynthia Ogiugo, lost their lives at a popular hotel (name withheld), on Emoavwodua Street, off Limit Road, in the Edo State capital.

It was gathered that the dead persons include two males and a female, who were sleeping in their rooms, when there was a sudden fire at 4 a.m., on the first floor of the hotel, with the smoke suffocating the lodgers, who became unconscious.

Nwabuzor said some suspects had been arrested, but their identities have not been disclosed.

However, police confirmed that a guest in the room, where the fire started, and an official of the hotel, had made useful statements to the police.
