Teenager confesses to strangling mother for calling him a bastard

An 18-year-old teenager, Tope Momoh, has admitted to strangling his 52-year-old mother, Stella, for calling him a bastard.

Momoh said he decided to confess to the crime two weeks after his mother was buried because he has no rest of his mind.

According to The Nation, he was said to have committed the offence at midnight of September 6, 2022, at Ikakumi Akoko, in Ondo State.

Momoh was arraigned before an Akure Chief Magistrates’ Court on a one-count charge of murder and he pleaded for mercy.

The prosecutor, Nelson Akintimehin, informed the court that the cause of the mother’s death was unknown until her son confessed to being the killer.

“Momoh in his confession said he was forced to tell his relatives that he strangled his mother to death when she woke him up at midnight, raining curses on him and calling him a bastard repeatedly.”

Akintimehin said the offence contravenes Section 319(1)of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Vol. II Law of Ondo State, 2006.

When allowed to speak, Momoh said, “I did not have rest of mind since my mother has been buried. So, I was forced to confess that I strangled her to death. So, I want the court to show me mercy.”

Tope’s plea was not taken but the presiding magistrate, Musa Al-Yunnus, ordered his remand at the Olokuta Correctional Centre and adjourned the case to October 20, 2022.
