There was palpable tension at the Wadata House, National Secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party following the resignation of seven members of the party’s National executive committee and a member of the National Working Committee.
Reports gathered that the national officers in separate letters addressed to the National Secretary of the party, Senator Unaru Tsauri, on Tuesday, alleged being sidelined and unfairly treated by the National Chairman, Uche Secondus complaining about what they referred to as “an unpleasant working environment”.
The party’s National Organising Secretary, Col. Austin Akobundu (retd), confirmed the resignations.
He, however, said those who resigned were deputies not the substantial heads of the departments. He declined to give further details.
Those who resigned include the deputy national financial secretary, the deputy legal adviser, the deputy national auditor, the deputy national publicity secretary, the deputy women leader and the deputy organising secretary.
The resigning NWC members, however, promised to remain loyal to the main opposition political party.
They, according to the report, will no longer continue to work with the current NWC led by Prince Uche Secondus.
