In a leaked memo, the Department of State Services (DSS) has issued a security alert, revealing a plot by bandits to attack the Abuja-Kaduna train link in the near future.

According to the DSS Director FCT Command, R.N. Adepemu, the intelligence report indicates an impending threat to the seamless train transportation along the Abuja-Kaduna Train Service (AKTS). The banditry syndicate aims to stage attacks on the train to kidnap passengers for ransom.

To counter this threat, the DSS recommends scaling up existing security arrangements, including air surveillance patrols, surveillance on the rail track, military and police checkpoints and patrols, and security raid operations in specific areas.

Furthermore, the memo advises enhancing the presence of Nigeria Police Mobile Force (NPMF) operatives with walkie talkies to provide escort services on the train. It also suggests deploying additional Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) personnel for escort duties.

A crisis response team should be established to ensure quick response in the event of an attack, and intelligence sharing among stakeholders is strongly encouraged.

While the specific details of the threat have not yet been made public, the security alert highlights the potential risk to the lives and property of stakeholders and commuters along the AKTS corridor.

The DSS urges the discreet management of this intelligence, as past attacks on the same route have resulted in casualties, abductions, and significant fear among passengers.
