Thieves raid Nasarawa govt farm, steal rice

Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has condemned the theft of an unspecified quantity of rice from the state government’s farm in the Jangwa community, Awe Local Government Area.

Sule disclosed the incident on Thursday while receiving a delegation from the Azara community, led by the Sarkin Azara, Dr. Kabiru Ibrahim, at the Government House in Lafia.

In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Addra, the governor expressed disappointment over the theft, describing it as a setback for the government’s efforts to boost food security and provide relief to residents.

“While the state government is pleased with the yield recorded, it is saddened by the level of theft during the harvest,” Sule said.

The governor decried the activities of the criminals, calling their actions unfortunate, especially as the state intensifies efforts to enhance food production and alleviate hunger.

“This level of theft is disheartening, particularly at a time when we are doing everything possible to bring relief to our people and ensure food security in Nasarawa and beyond,” he said.

He issued a stern warning to those involved, urging them to desist from such unwholesome practices. Sule vowed that the government would deal decisively with anyone caught stealing from the farm.

Despite the setback, the governor reassured residents of his administration’s commitment to agricultural development.

“We will not be deterred. Nasarawa State, being an agricultural hub, must have its government leading the charge in agricultural activities,” he said.

Sule also appreciated the traditional rulers and residents of the area for their cooperation, which he noted had contributed to the farm’s success since the government’s agricultural program began in the community.
